I've been doing wedding photography for 20 years, and in recent times I have noticed that with the invention of digital photography and good quality cameras, there seems to be a massive influx of people trying their hands at being Wedding Photographer's, with little to no actual experience, for "pocket money".

So after you have chosen your dress, choosing the Photographer to do your big day is one of the most important decisions you have to make...
The food will only last a few hours, the flowers will last a few weeks, the dress will be packed and placed in a safe place, but the photographs will be with you for life, and should be cherished.
To choose the Photographer will take time, and a lot of research. Take advice from your friends on who they have used. Go see the Photographer's, not just at the wedding shows as every photographer only shows off their best work there. You want to see albums made for clients, not ones used with models or set-ups, take a look at their websites and social media pages, like their Facebook business page, you also need to read testimonials, if they have none...why?
Work out a budget, but don't just go for the cheapest. They're cheap for a reason, find out why.
 

Questions to be asked;
1. Are they insured.
2. What equipment do they use.
3. Have they got back up equipment.
4. How many weddings have they done (you don't want to be their guinea pig by being their 1st).
5. What packages do they do, and can they be adapted to suit your needs.
6. What style of photography do they do.
7. How long will they be working for on the day.
8. What, if anything, makes them stand out from the others.
9. Check on social networks and ask for recommendations.
10. Do they offer FREE pre-wedding shoots with their packs.

You also have to get on with the Photographer. Gone are the days of the Photographer ruling the roost. This is YOUR special day.

They work for YOU.

Have the pre-shoot done, if the Photographer charges for this service, ask why, it should be part of the deal.

This way you will find a common ground to work on for the main event.
The Photographer is there to help, its their job, but is also something they love doing, so never be scared to ask questions.
The wedding day is a one off event, you need to have the confidence in the person you are putting in charge of recording the best day of your life.
Please be careful, as I would hate to see any couple get rubbish work produced. You all deserve the best quality, go with a dedicated professional, who know their trade and not someone who is just doing it for the extra cash.

Just because people say they do the job, does not mean they can.

Please take some time in reading how I work. This will show you just how it should be done. There's no second chances in wedding photography. Please choose wisely.
